“Info-Day on the Visibility of Scientific Output in Universities and The Ways to Improve Their Ranking “
An Info-day on the visibility of scientific output in universities and the ways to improve their ranking, presented by the expert Karim Djouani, was held on Monday 23 September 2024 at the National School of Computer Science in El Harrach. This day was organised in collaboration with the Directorate- General for Scientific Research and Technological Development, the Regional Conference of Central Universities and the Thematic Agency for Research in Sciences and Technology. The event focused on enhancing the international ranking of Algerian universities by encouraging universities to take the appropriate measures required by various ranking systems, especially Shanghai Ranking .
The info-day featured two presentations followed by discussions and was organised in two phases. The first phase was dedicated to university officials responsible for pedagogy, research, communication, and visibility, while the second phase was reserved for research laboratory directors. The event emphasised the need to improve the quality and efficiency of laboratory scientific output and increase its visibility to enhance the ranking of university establishments .
In the two presentations, the expert highlighted that most university rankings are based on key criteria, such as :
· The information and data provided by establishments regarding training, the effectiveness of education and the competence of graduates .
· The quality of scientific output, particularly its impact on knowledge and economy .
· The link between scientific development, innovation and economic development .
· International cooperation and how universities engage in various forms of exchange .
The expert stressed the importance of effective strategic planning for establishments by aligning their websites with global standards, enhancing collaboration between laboratories, establishments and institutes, and developing performance evaluation systems for researchers, as well as laboratory visibility.
The expert Karim Djouani also answered the questions asked by the participants.
